Tomoyuki Endo is a visiting scholar in the department this quarter, from Wako University in Tokyo where he teaches 20th C Japanese and English lit in translation (some his own translation). His most recent translation into English is _Names and Rivers_ by Shuri Kido (co-translated with Forrest Gander), which was longlisted for the National Translation Award from the American Literary Translators Association: https://www.coppercanyonpress.org/books/names-and-rivers-by-shuri-kido-tomoyuki-endo-trans-forrest-gander-trans/

On Tuesday, November 19, light snacks and drinks will be provided in 126 at 11:30, followed by a literature and translation short talk in 120, on the relation between Chinese ideograms and modern poetry from 12-12:45. Grad students who are available and interested are especially encouraged to attend this event.
