Description

This class will focus on the development of nineteenth-century British literature. We will read novels, short stories, poetry, and drama from the Romantic and Victorian periods and discuss the following topics, among others: sensation and realism, industrialization and individualism, science and evolution, marriage and domesticity, empire and colonization, and modes of reading, writing, and publication.
